p5Managing diabetes starts with mealtime.

Creating a meal plan is about breaking old habits and coming up with a strategy that works for your schedule, your blood glucose, and your eating preferences. There are several meal planning tools to help you manage diabetes, but the key is to find the one that you’re comfortable using. Get started with these 3 solid meal-planning strategies.
Make a list.

A running shopping list is a good way to stay organized. Keep it near the fridge, and when you have a thought about a healthy item, write it down. When shopping day arrives, you’ll be ready to hit the store running. This will help keep you focused on the big picture while you shop.
Make a plan for YOU.

Work with your healthcare professional or Dietician to create a plan that suits your needs. People have different metabolisms. You may benefit from 3 solid meals a day or you may prefer 5 or 6 smaller meals. Consulting a Certified Diabetes Educator is a great way to establish your meal plans.
Keep your old recipes.

You can still use your favorite recipes, but they may require a bit of adjustment in serving size or ingredients.
